Meet the founders
Matt and Caleb met freshman year of college and ended up as roommates all four years. In 2015, Caleb visited his sister in New Zealand, where he tried real fruit ice cream for the fIrst time: fresh fruit blended directly into smooth, creamy ice cream. He came home convinced it could be a hit in the states, and the two bought a 1966 Chevy van that summer.
Zeds offIcially opened in Southeast Portland in April 2016. From the beginning, Matt and Caleb wanted the experience around the ice cream to feel as considered as the product itself, from the brand to the people serving it. Ten years later, they’re most proud that what started in a van is still here and thriving.

In 2022, Mack and TJ took over Zeds with a shared goal: preserve what made the brand special while thoughtfully growing it across Austin and Central Texas.
At its core, Zeds is meant to be a neighborhood gathering place. Somewhere people can slow down, spend time together and enjoy really good ice cream. As the business grows, that sense of community remains central to everything Mack and TJ are buildinG.

MACK BROWN
OWNER & GENERAL MANAGER
Mack oversees the day-to-day operations at Zeds, including the shops, team and details that shape the customer experience. He joined the business shortly after graduating from college and is focused on growing Zeds without losing its neighborhood feel.
